SUNSCREEN FILM FEST ANNOUNCES NEW SCREENPLAY CONTEST
9/16/2011
(St. Petersburg, FL) The Sunscreen Film Festival, now heading into its 7th year, opens its Call for Entries with a new category this year. For the first time Sunscreen will host a screenplay competition.
"It's something people have been requesting and we've got some great things planned. The most asked question by writers is always 'How can I get my screenplay to an agent in Hollywood?' Well now they can. We have two top Hollywood literary agents taking part in the competition. The agents will read, consider and meet with the winning writers to discuss their screenplays. It's really a great prize for the winners, and this kind of access to agents is the most difficult thing to accomplish in the industry" said Sunscreen Film executive director, Tony Armer.
The call for entries for films and screenplays opened on Thursday August 18th and goes until December 15th. Sunscreen regularly receives films from all over the world. Past fests have screened films from France, Spain, Australia, Iran, and more. The 2011 festival included films and filmmakers from as far away as London and South Korea.
The 7th Annual 2012 festival takes place from April 12-15th. About the Sunscreen Film Festival Sunscreen Film Festival is organized and presented by the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Film Society, a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization, which is dedicated to educating the public about the art of visual storytelling, enhancing opportunities for local filmmakers to develop their craft and art, and increasing the public's awareness and support of local filmmaking as a cultural and economic asset. All board members and staff are volunteers.
Since 2006 packed crowds filled the festivals screening, seminars and acting, producing and movie-making classes. A few of the guests have included John Travolta, Patrick Wilson (Watchmen, A-Team) Billy Dee Williams (Brian's Song, The Empire Strikes Back), Ethan Suplee (My Name is Earl), Alexa Vega (Spy Kids movies), Bill Cobbs (A Night at the Museum) and the producers of X-Men, and indie- film darling from a few years ago, Napoleon Dynamite.
