CINEMATIQUE UNDER THE STARS – WE’RE BACK!

(Daytona Beach) Cinematique of Daytona is back for the 7th year presenting free outdoor films! The Cinematique Under The Stars series has moved around a bit from City Island Park, to the Band Shell, and for 2012 movies will be shown at River Front Park at the corner of Magnolia and Beach in Downtown Daytona Beach. “The outdoor films are for our community” said Stephanie Mason-Teague, President of Cinematique. "River Front Park is centrally located near our year round cinema with plenty of free parking”.

Also new for 2012, all of the films in the series are based on books. City Island Library, with support from the Friends of the Library, is hosting a Book Club to encourage literacy and discussion of both the movie and the book. The Book club will meet at the library prior to most of the films.

Deborah Shafer, organizer of the book club, said “The book and movie club will make a great night out, a perfect way to spend time with friends and meet new ones”.

The monthly film series coincides with Front Porch Fridays; an initiative of Downtown Daytona Beach to showcase the many unique offerings in historic downtown on the first Friday of each month.

Attendees are encouraged to visit the many restaurants and shops that line Beach Street. Book club participants will receive a free reusable style bag containing coupons and special offers from local merchants and eateries. The convenient, eco-friendly bags and discount offers will also be available for a suggested donation of $1.00 at the outdoor movie and Ciinematique Theater.

Just like the old time Drive-In, movies will start at dusk. Approximately 7:00 pm at the start of the season in March. The Book Club will meet at 5:00 pm prior to 6 of the 8 films at City Island Library, to sign up please contact Deborah Shafer at (386) 257-6037.

April 6: EMMA (Rain Date April 13) *please note no book club in April
May 4: WATER FOR ELEPHANTS (Rain Date May 11)
June 1: HUGO (Rain Date June 8)
July 6: THE ACCIDENTAL TOURIST (Rain Date July 13)
August 3: HARRY POTTER – THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX ( Rain Date August 10) * please note no book club in August
September 7: TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (Rain Date September 14)
October 5: Steven King’s 1408 (Rain Date October 12)

In the case of rain, both the movie and book club will be rescheduled for the following week. The schedule will be recorded on the theater movie phone (386) 252-3778. Concession items including popcorn, hotdogs, candy and sodas will be available for purchase. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.
