WIFF’S “REEL- LIFE” IMAGES CELEBRATE WOMEN FILMMAKERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
2/27/2009
For the first time to emphasize the 2009 theme Film Fashion, Fabulous, a category has been established which will promote the role of women as costume designers and stylists, for many the only entry into film, and the important role they have played in shaping the images of women globally through film and fashion.
It all begins on Friday, February 27th at 8:00 pm, at the Olympia Theater, Gusman Center of the Performing Arts, 174 East Flagler, Miami with the Red Carpet Opening Night East Coast Premiere of Summit Entertainment’s “The Brothers Bloom”, with Academy Award winners Adrien Brody (“The Piano”) and Rachel Weisz , (“The Constant Gardener”), followed by a celebrity filled after party at Karu & Y’s Buddha Gardens.
WIFF encourages, supports and promotes women in the global film industry who represent only 5-7% of the industry, by assisting in establishing opportunities for training and education, distribution, international trade and investment, and marketing through workshops such as the “Careers in Film Workshops” presented Saturday, February 28th, at the Fontainebleau, Miami Beach, where critics, award winning directors, producers, casting directors, film training and education institution representatives, distributors, designers, stylists and other industry leaders present to international film makers, film students, and those seeking new careers or job change.
The signature events of the festival include an outdoor 30’s style Beach Pajama and Outdoor Film Party around the pool area at the fabulous Fontainebleau, Miami Beach, on Saturday, February 28th from 8:00pm – 2:00 am, with fine wine, live music, games, gourmet popcorn, prizes, and the best short films of 2009.
