FROM THE DELRAY BEACH FILM FESTIVAL DIRECTOR, DR. MICHAEL C. POSNER...

11/17/2007

For one thing, we learned that bigger is not always better, and that more is not always best either. So, for next year’s event, we’ve narrowed down the number of films we’ve selected, avoiding scheduling conflicts whenever possible. We hope that after you preview our choices, you’ll agree that we sacrificed nothing, and our selection criteria resulted in a group of very strong independent films, submitted by some extremely promising filmmakers. If you are interested in submitting a film to the festival, please visit: www.Withoutabox.com.

In addition, we’re hosting our very popular workshops, targeted toward the emerging independent filmmakers. The public is welcome to sit in on these workshops and see some of the behind the scenes activities that are required when making and distributing a film. Our purpose is to entertain as well as educate both filmmakers and film enthusiasts.

Back by popular demand, we are having our “SHORT SCRIPT WRITING CONTEST”, 10 pages or less, easily shot in a beachside community. A winning script will be chosen by a panel of 6 judges and then will be shot by 6-8 teams of filmmakers and then premiered and judged on closing night. The winning filmmaker will receive a trip – 4 days, 3 nights at any Beaches Sandals Resort in the Caribbean. Please submit scripts for consideration through www.Withoutabox.com.

Of course, we will also have numerous parties planned at some of the most popular nightspots on Atlantic Avenue. This is where fans, producers, writers, actors and everyone else involved with independent films will get to mingle, gossip, exchange ideas, meet new people with the same passion for movies that you do.

We strive to make the Delray Beach Film Festival one which serves the filmmakers, as well as one which allows their fans a chance to peek behind the scenes and actually see how a concept becomes a story line, evolves into a script, is interpreted by a director, presented by actors and finally unveiled to the public. This is a fantastic creative process, and one which most film lovers never actually witness.

So, once again – welcome. And we hope you take full advantage of all that we offer.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael C. Posner

Festival Director and Founder
